Production began in June 2012 at Jobs' childhood home in Los Altos, California, with the help of Jobs' stepmother, Marilyn Jobs (who still lives there).[10] It was also observed by his sister Patricia.[11] UCLA was used as the backdrop for Jobs' time at Reed College.[12] The majority of the film was shot in the Los Angeles region.[8][13] Russell Carpenter was the cinematographer.[14]
