According to Cactus, another benefit of offering flexible options is improved employee retention. “In-house employees who relocate to other cities or countries for personal reasons no longer need to quit; they just telecommute,” says Rosari. “In fact, the introduction of remote and flexible work options even brought back a number of our former employees as contractors or freelancers.”
The expression day job is often used for a job one works in order to make ends meet while performing low-paying (or non-paying) work in their preferred vocation. Archetypal examples of this are the woman who works as a waitress (her day job) while she tries to become an actress, and the professional athlete who works as a laborer in the off season because he is currently only able to make the roster of a semi-professional team.

"With work-from-anywhere remote jobs, professionals gain a lot of control over their work lives by being able to live wherever they choose,” says Brie Reynolds, senior career specialist at FlexJobs. “That sense of control lends itself really well to people who aspire to travel and work, and it can make them both happier AND more productive as professionals. It can also foster a sense of loyalty from professionals to their employers because they appreciate the opportunity to live and work wherever they choose."

Two years later, Jobs is back in Los Altos, California living at home with his adoptive parents Paul (John Getz) and Clara (Lesley Ann Warren). He is working for Atari and develops a partnership with his friend Steve Wozniak (Josh Gad) after he sees that Wozniak has built a personal computer (the Apple I). They name their new company Apple Computer, though there already is a company called Apple Records that is owned by The Beatles (Wozniak then teases Jobs that this is symbolic of his preference for Bob Dylan). Wozniak gives a demonstration of the Apple I at the Homebrew Computer Club. Jobs is later approached by Paul Terrell (Brad William Henke) who shows interest in the Apple I. Knowing that he and Wozniak will need a studio in which to build them, Jobs convinces his father Paul to allow them to use the family garage (set up as a carpentry/tool center) for his new company. Realizing that they cannot build these computers alone, Jobs also recruits Kottke, Bill Fernandez (Victor Rasuk), and Chris Espinosa (Eddie Hassell) to the Apple team.[7]

On the top of the FlexJobs list is the company Cactus, a global medical communications agency that began offering remote work opportunities in 2007. “We quickly realized that it is beneficial for everyone concerned,” says Daniel Rosario, AVP of editorial talent acquisition. “Job seekers now have a much wider variety of options and can focus on what they do best; the company, in turn, has access to an expanded talent pool; and our clients — mainly research scientists — are assured of having their documents edited or translated by the right expert.”

It's utterly ridiculous that I have to use my cellphone to receive a PIN to login on my government c...omputer. I work in a classified facility where our phones must be turned off and stored before we enter the building. What's more, I live overseas and my phone number is a foreign number, which I cannot access except from this country (unless I incur $3.00 service charges per SMS message). If I'm traveling and I get a notification, I can't login to check my status until I return to my overseas station! That's just a plain stupid design. Lots of folks living abroad use this site, too. You need to fix this nonsense! See More

“Since 2000 I’ve been focused on developing spoken language and machine translation systems that can engage with humans more effectively, and hopefully break down language and other barriers,” Chao says. “We’re still far from systems that truly understand the meaning of what we’re saying, but the progress we’re making with Alexa is incredibly exciting.”
