On the top of the FlexJobs list is the company Cactus, a global medical communications agency that began offering remote work opportunities in 2007. “We quickly realized that it is beneficial for everyone concerned,” says Daniel Rosario, AVP of editorial talent acquisition. “Job seekers now have a much wider variety of options and can focus on what they do best; the company, in turn, has access to an expanded talent pool; and our clients — mainly research scientists — are assured of having their documents edited or translated by the right expert.”

While only 5% of remote jobs can actually be done from anywhere in the world, according to Flexjobs, the number of work-from-anywhere in the world job listings has increased 53% over the last two years. One thing that has contributed to this increase is the rise of technology. “With remote-friendly technology and high-speed internet now widely available, it’s easier than ever for remote employees to stay connected no matter where they are located,” says Sara Sutton, Founder and CEO of FlexJobs.
According to Cactus, another benefit of offering flexible options is improved employee retention. “In-house employees who relocate to other cities or countries for personal reasons no longer need to quit; they just telecommute,” says Rosari. “In fact, the introduction of remote and flexible work options even brought back a number of our former employees as contractors or freelancers.”
Agree with all the comments on two-factor authentication that, for the most part, necessitates an ex...terior device. Two-factor/more complex authentication is fine, but it should never require a phone to complete. I'm aware that you can get a personal key, but -- if you haven't written down the most current iteration of that ever-changing key -- you're out of luck until you're able to access your cell phone again. This is just one more level of workiness layered on top of an already-complex system, and I'm guessing the number of qualified applicants bothering to apply for a given position will sharply decline, if they haven't already. The expression day job is often used for a job one works in order to make ends meet while performing low-paying (or non-paying) work in their preferred vocation. Archetypal examples of this are the woman who works as a waitress (her day job) while she tries to become an actress, and the professional athlete who works as a laborer in the off season because he is currently only able to make the roster of a semi-professional team.
